Our Story

A friend of mine recently posted the story of her engagement. I thought it was a great idea! Many people don't know our story, so I decided to post it here.

***************************************

Chris and I actually met years and years ago. Our families were in the same ward, and shared a mutual friend. (Ted Guthrie, twin brother of Fred Woods, Chris's great-uncle.) So Chris and I kinda grew up together. For years, he was that annoying Nelson boy, and I was the stupid Stephenson girl. =]

When I was in 8th grade, I brought a friend of mine to church. She saw Chris and asked "Who is that cutie?" I looked and him and remember thinking, "Ohmygosh, Chris is cute!! When did this happen!?"

From then on, I had a huge, and I mean HUGE crush on Chris. When I hit high school, I started going to all the boys' soccer games. Eventually, I got Chris to start talking to me about the games before school every day. Before I knew it, he was waiting for me after every class =] We were pretty inseparable. Even though we never called ourselves a "couple" until much much later. We thought we had our parents tricked.. I learned a few years later, they knew from the very beginning haha.

Years went by, and we eventually broke up during my Junior year. We dated other people, and didn't talk again until I was out of high school and in college. We were both single, and I convinced him to go to the Singles Ward with me. Obviously, that "single" status didn't last long. We dated for a couple months, spending every minute together. He visited me at work, I skipped classes to spend time with him. We went window shopping, went for drives, went to the river.. whatever we could do.

A few months later, he proposed to me. We were at my parents house. It was about 11:00 at night. We were walking out to the car before he left, and he was walking behind me. He kept saying over and over "Look at me." I thought he was just being a dork, and didn't turn around. Eventually, I did turn around, and he was down on one knee with a ring in his hand =] Now I can't say that I didn't see this coming. We had talked about it for a couple months, and I had even picked out a ring. I told him when we were ring shopping, "I don't want to know when you are going to ask me. Don't do a big fancy dinner or anything, that'll be obvious." Well I can honestly say, I didn't think it was going to happen like THAT. It was a total surprise. I ran inside and jumped on my sister's bed. I couldn't wait until morning. We spent all night waking up our families. It was a fun night =]

We were married 5 months later on October 27th, 2007. Everyone has regrets about their wedding day. Personally, I regret our photographer choice, and I spent way too much time trying to talk to everyone, and not actually enjoying the day. Other than that, it was a fabulous day, and I wish I could do it all again, over and over and over =]

Our photographer didn't have the experience that he claimed he had. The outdoor photos were great.. but all the photos from the reception (indoors) totally sucked. They were fuzzy, and the exposure was totally messed up.. He didn't know his way around a camera, at all. Any photographer that actually KNEW what he was doing, would've told us the lighting was bad, and had us changed it. And he would've adjusted his shutter speed and aperture to fit the setting. This guy just put his camera on "auto" and snapped some pics.
