Today, I am a combination of all four of those emotions.. and many more.
Yesterday, we left our house around 12:15 and headed out for a day of Christmas Shopping.
We arrived home shortly after dark, and noticed something was wrong with our door locks.
It didn't take Chris long to realize that we had become the victims of an attempted robbery.
Our locks had been destroyed.
It looks like they attempted to shove a screwdriver in the locks to gain access to the house.
Thankfully, they never got in.
But the fear, anxiety, and violation are still present.
I am so grateful that we have neighbors to watch out for us.
He heard a pounding noise around 1:00pm and went outside to check it out.
There was no one on the front porch, and no one in sight.
I am convinced that he scared away whoever was trying to get in.
Chris immediately called the police, and they came down to inspect.
The officer entered the house first, and made sure it was safe.
Our neighbors stayed with us for the rest of the evening, and even bought us some dinner.
Today, I am thankful for many things:
- That Chris no longer works nights, and was able to stay home with me all night.
- That we have wonderful neighbors to help us in our time of need.
- That the Troutdale Police responded so quickly.
- That we have the right to own firearms to keep us safe.
- That the property owners sent maintenance out within hours to replace our door locks.
I am still nervous, and anxious, but I know that we are safe inside our home.
And I couldn't be more grateful for that.
